Kraft Recalls Over 7,500 Cases of American Singles over Ingredient Storage Issue

Kraft American singles cheese recalled for poor storage
If you have Kraft American singles cheese product in your house, you will want to take a minute and check the package. Kraft Foods Group decided to initiate a voluntary recall of 7,691 cases of four different varieties of its Kraft American Singles due to a supplier incorrectly storing an ingredient used in them. The recall is a precautionary measure, and there have been no known incidents of people getting ill or consumer complaints from the product. The cheese came from the Kraft Springfield, Missouri, manufacturing facility, and the recall includes the following varieties:

  • 12 oz Kraft American Singles (16 slices) with best used by date of 20 FEB 2015 and 21 FEB 2015
  • 16 oz Kraft American Singles (24 slices) with best used by date of 20 FEB 2015 (12 and 36 unit cases)
  • 64 oz (4 lb) Kraft American Singles (4 x 24 slice) with best used by date 20 FEB 2015

Consumers can check the “Best When Used By” dates of Feb. 20, 2015, and Feb. 21, 2015 by looking at the bottom of the product package. The company emphasizes that beyond the four mentioned products above, no other Kraft Singles products are a part of the recall.

The issue which prompted the recall was a supplier who failed to store an ingredient used in the creation of the product at the correct temperature in accordance with what Kraft requires as part of its temperature standards. While it isn’t likely, Kraft noted the storage at an inadequate temperature could create conditions of premature spoilage or increase the chances of food borne illnesses .

If you find you have one of the recalled products at your home, you should not consume it even if you have already consumed some with no ill effects. The products should either be thrown away or returned to the store where purchased for a full refund or exchange. Consumers with any questions or concerns about the recall can also contact Kraft Foods Consumer Relations directly at 1-800-396-5512 to have their questions answered.

Although I would never eat these in the first place, it’s good to see a company being proactive in a case like this and not only thinking about money. Good on them.
