Are stores open or closed on Cinco de Mayo?
It can often be difficult to know what businesses are open or closed when smaller holidays roll around, but it’s good to know so that you don’t end up taking the time to go to a business only to find that the business is closed. While most businesses will keep their regular hours on holidays that aren’t national holidays, it can vary quite a bit for the smaller holidays that are celebrated across the United States. For those who are wondering whether or not stores will be open on Cinco de Mayo (May 5, 2015), the information below will let you know. Since Cinco de Mayo isn’t a federal holiday, the vast majority of businesses will keep their regular business hours on Tueday.

Walmart

Walmart is open on Cinco de Mayo. All Walmart stores will be open for their regular business hours on Tuesday May 5.

Target

Target is open on Cinco de Mayo. Target stores across the US will be open on May 5, 2015 for their regular Monday business hours.

Costco

Costco is open on Cinco de Mayo. Costco is only closed a few days during the year, and this holiday is not one of these days. All Costco stores will be open for their regular Tuesday business hours from 10:00 AM – 8:30 PM where you can shop or buy gas.

Grocery Stores

All grocery stores are open on Cinco de Mayo. There are a few days each year when major grocery stores will close for a particular holiday. The Cinco de Mayo holiday celebration is not one of those holidays. Grocery stores will be open their normal business hours on Tuesday, May 5. You can plan to do your regular grocery shopping if you usually do it on Tuedays. Major grocery store chains such as Albertsons, Aldi, Kroger, Publix, Safeway, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods and Winn-Dixie will be open.

If you shop at a smaller, independent grocery store, these all should also be open for the day. If you shop at an ethnic Mexican grocery store, the store should be open, but may have limited store hours on May 5 if the town has major holiday celebrations. Call your local store to confirm their hours if this is the case.

Drug Stores

National drug store chains are open on Cinco de Mayo. There are three major drugstore chains in the US (CVS, Rite-Aid and Walgreens) which will all be open on May 5. For those who do their drugstore shopping at a local or independently owned drugstore, these all should be open as well. There should be no need to change the day that you usually do your shopping at your drugstore for this holiday.

Restaurants

In most cases, yes, restaurants are open on Cinco de Mayo. There should be no major disruption to the hours of your local restaurant due to this holiday. If you aren’t sure whether or not the restaurant you want to go to is open seven days a week, you may want to give them a call to confirm that they will be open on this day.

Gas Stations

Gas stations are open on Cinco de Mayo. You should not see any gas stations which are closed specifically for this holiday. All gas stations should be running on their normal business hours.

Banks and Credit Unions

Banks and credit unions are open on Cinco de Mayo. While there are many holidays when banks change their hours due to a holiday, this is not one of them. All banks and credit unions that are normally open on Tuesday will be open on Cinco de Mayo.

Post Offices

Post offices are open on Cinco de Mayo. This isn’t a a federal holiday, so post offices will keep their regular business hours on Tuesday, May 5.
