I don't believe in New Year's resolutions especially the big two of losing weight and getting finances in order. If you wanted to do those things, you wouldn't have to wait to a particular day on the calendar. That is why no one starts diets on weekends. They are putting things off until Monday which most people hate anyhow because they have to go back to work, but the weekend means kicking back and doing what you want and most people don't want to diet.

I have no problems with yearly, monthly, weekly goals that help you move along to a place where you want to be in life. Those goals also require plans for how to achieve the goals and steps to do to make them happen. I've never heard of anyone making a resolution with any of the steps other than possibly "doing Jenny Craig" or 'going to the gym' as the steps they will take.

And another reason they go together - both require attention. The classic first step of dieting is to start a food diary; the classic first step of saving is to write down all your spending. Both actions keep you from doing either eating or spending blindly, which will derail you.
