As much as I love to read, I've found a way to get books to read without buying them. I get free books from Amazon to review, so several of those a month, library books, and when I want to buy a book our business credit card gives us points to use on Amazon for when I want to buy a book. These are ways that I can indulge for free. For a little more money there is always the library book sales.

I also love to sew and love sewing items. I search for them at yard sales and at the thrift store where I can gets all sorts of notions, threads, trims, etc. for pennies on the dollar.

Sound advice as always. I like your writing because it often reiterates so much of the common-sense advice that I received while growing up. Some good ideas need to be re-told.

Something off-topic: I love that you don't pepper your write-up with links to your own or others' blog posts. That is one of the single most distracting features I've noticed on a lot of websites. (Granted, there is no compulsion to click on those links but they do cause one to shift one's attention away, even if momentarily, from the point the author is trying to make. Please keep this blog the way it is.)

It's been a very long time since I felt a need to purchase books or DVDs. I think because I got out of the habit of feeling like I needed to own or possess something in order to experience it. To me, these things will still feel like a waste of money because there are so many cheaper alternatives. Life can be so much simpler when you don't clutter your living space with possessions.
