In new homes the requirements are very stringent. As a home builder, we have built larger homes and it is not unusual to have 10 to 15 smoked detectors in the home.

If you are in an older home, install smoke detectors even if they are only battery operated. From time to time check the batteries to make sure that they are operating correctly.

Don’t for get the basic essentials of fire safety which also include installing and maintaining smoke alarms, as well as planning and practicing fire escape drills.
