I am very frugal, especially during these difficult times. I shop the food ads every week to look for specials and pretty much only buy things that are on sale. I have a hard time paying full price when I have bought an item on sale previously.

I do, however, have a hard time using coupons. I have never had the time to spend hunting for coupons and then searching for the items in the store.

I do see others using coupons in the store and think they are pretty smart. If you have the time to search then out, you can save a lot, that is if you are not paying more then you would for a sale item.

I think that lady doth protest too much! I’ve been couponing since college. Yes, it does take work, but it makes sense in the long run. It sounds like we have a case of laziness. Most people who are in financial trouble will put a lot of effort into finding reasons not to put effort into helping themselves out of the black!

One caveat: I agree with the general “buy generic/forget the coupons” idea, but there are some products that are in fact better than store-brand, or cheaper when using a coupon. Soda, for instance. Generic diet soda tastes like poison to me. So I either go without or buy with a coupon. Works for me!

I don’t do the Sunday paper thing because you can get the generic item, which is often the identical product, much cheaper, and that’s how I save money and time!

I saw that article too! I didn’t take time to respond via my blog because I didn’t have time. I am too busy saving money and helping others do it too! My pantry is stocked and I am able to make numerous donations to the local food pantry. What a burden!

*big grin*

Oh, but, I really AM so tired today…

NOT from couponing, but from having a great time all day with my kids as we attended a low-cost homeschool day at a nearby camp with TONS of cool stuff to do (zip line, swimming pool, putt putt golf, etc.), plus a 90-minute lesson from a weather man; *and* from attending FREE day at our local museum of natural history; *and* from taking the kids to Tae Kwon Do lessons at the Y, which is conveniently next door to the museum (thus enabling me and my youngest to stay at the museum with friends until it closed at 7:00 PM).

My point, you wonder? I am so thankful for the frugal mindset that enables me to understand that I can stay at home with my children (or run all over town with them, as the case may be), instead of thinking that I *must* work to make ends meet. I think I’ll keep my “job” as a couponer!

I’m not a coupon fanatic, but I use SOME coupons SOME times.

What I don’t understand is why this has to be such an ongoing hot topic for debate.

Who am I to say another should use coupons if they want to be more frugal? Who am I to disagree if another says couponing isn’t worth their time? I certainly don’t know all of their spending habits or the value they place on their time.

There is no right or wrong when it comes to using coupons. Use them or don’t.

LOL, I saw the same article. It was pretty ridiculous to me. I thought a more appropriate title would have been “reasons to not feel guilty for not couponing if you’re not interested in doing so anyway.” It’s really just all the reasons you’d give yourself if you don’t want to coupon and don’t take the sunday paper.

It was pretty funny.
