Somehow I can't imagine any family going through 3000 straws! My quirk is bathroom tissue, I feel like I am almost out of the stuff when I down to 2-12 roll packs! But then I live in an area that gets blizzards and snowstorms and I just don't want to have to drive to get something that is easily stocked up ahead of time, in bad weather. I also try to stock up any non-perishable to at least a years supply and perishables for up to a several months to a years supply depending on the item. I am also fortunate enough to have a freezer, large pantry and plenty of storage.

Annie, I would *so* stock up on that cat litter if I saw it for $1.00 per bag! I should be buying pasta by the case because my 11-year old is totally addicted to it. Recently, Food Lion had Ronzoni pasta on sale (BOGO free). I should have bought tons of it, but I only had limited funds the day I was there.

Ann, I like to buy extra shoes too. I have flat feet and plantar fasciitis. When I find a pair of shoes that is comfortable, I like to buy extras. Recently, though, I bought my first pair of Crocs from the online store with a coupon code and a free shipping code. Wow! Crocs for $14.95 shipped. I L-O-V-E them Is it wrong to love shoes? LOL! I plan to buy another pair soon. There are SO MANY different styles these days. :o)

Today is my son's 11th birthday, but we went to a graduation ceremony from 2 - 4. Afterward, we asked him what he'd like for dinner (cookout). He said steak and ribs (which is what we had 10 days ago when DH & I celebrated our 20th anniversary). Well, I had purchased those at Kroger (Manager's Special) so we went there today. This time, there were no suitable specials. We went to Food Lion and found bunches of Country Style Pork Ribs. They were scrumptious on our anniversary, so we bought a large pack. By then, though, DS had decided he would rather go to McD's. We bought the ribs anyway and will grill them tommorrow. *grin*

One of my favorite stories is the one Andy Griffith where Aunt Bee buys all the meat at a discount price and it turns out to be as tough as shoe leather and then on top of that, her freezer goes out!
:)
Another one-when Lucy buys the side of beef -again at a huge discounted price- and hides the fact from Ricky!
Hilarious!!
Just a couple of examples that came to mind reading about all you crazy straw-hoarding people, LOL!

@ Ann: I stock up on shoes, too! One of the few things I'm brand loyal about are New Balance tennis shoes. I always have at least one pair on "back up". If I find them at a really good price, I might have 2-3 more pairs waiting in my closet.

My big bulk purchases all seem to be cleaning supplies, which I can keep out in the garage. LOL Sometimes, big boxes of cereal or a particular cereal that tends to be expensive that I like will goin on sale really cheap and I'll stock up but too many other things go bad, so it's not worth it in the long run.

I've also learned to buy certain shoes in quantity. I have 2 pairs of nearly dead, high-top, white leather "tennis" shoes. I originally picked up four pairs 'cause the first pair was so comfortable and now I'm wishing I'd picked up 10 pairs 'cause I can't find them any more! If my current most comfortable "work" shoe goes on sale, you'd better believe I'll stock up.

defintiely improtant to not buy things that may not be used. My mom used to always buy in bulk things that we were eating a lot of, only to realize that we had gotten sick of the item and moved on. in this case, buying in bulk was a huge waste of money and space!

I would add to that to know that you can store the product. If you have to buy an extra fridge to store all the food, is the sale price worth the electricity bill?

I routinely buy straws by the thousand...LOL! My teeth are sensitive to cold, so using them are the only way I can really enjoy cold drinks.

I can't even begin to remember all the things we've bought in bulk. Hundreds of individual packets of Taco Bell green sauce, because I love the stuff. Pasta by the case. 18-20 bags of pine pellet cat litter for $1 each! Plastic zip-ties by the thousands. They came in an auction lot with a desk and some other things. We had no use for them, but were able to give them to our mechanic in lieu of payment for some work he did...he uses them to tag customer's keys!

Nothing's beyond consideration if the price is right. LOL!
