There is a famous quote that says that money is the root of all evil. I think that statement is wrong. I think that the envy of money is the root of all evil. How can money be evil? Money is an inanimate object, and as such, is incapable of any action at all, let alone evil.

Now envy, on the other hand, is dangerous. Envy is an emotion. A strong emotion. It ranks right up there with love, hate and desire. Envy is not to be confused with jealousy. Jealousy involves at least three people; the person who is jealous, the much-loved person and a perceived competitor. You are correct, you just have the quote incorrect. The actual quote from the King James bible is Timothy 6:10, “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

Essentially exactly what you are saying. Greed and Envy, 2 of the seven deadly sins.

1 Timothy 6:10 to be more exact, as there are two letters to Timothy.

ACTUALLY – Traciatim, the love of money is the root of *many kinds* of evil. Most common misquoted verse in the Bible, I might add. Unless you had a newer version you were quoting from – I’ve never read “all evil” like most people say.

As for the original post… you are very right. I’ve been working hard to keep my focus on me and my family and what we have to be grateful for. We live in Southern CA and the houses here are ridiculous – even WITH the downfall in prices. We’re waiting and saving and trusting that everything will be perfect for us when we buy in a way that is safe and secure financially (like having half the money in cash).
