I am with you on this one. Free is definitely the way to go. Since costs are usually so low, hotels and airports should be able to provide it for free.]

As the internet becomes more and more important to travelers (if it isn't already) hotels won't be able to afford to not have a good connection.

Actually, I've found that the San Jose airport to be one of the most reasonable prices for Internet Access. I believe it is only $6.95 for a day's worth of access.

I should have made that a bit clearer in my post - the reason I passed was after getting through all the congestion at the airport that day I only had about 30 minutes there which would have been long enough to check some emails, but not worth the price.

It makes great business sense for cities to pick up the wireless tab at airports. San Jose offers free wireless down town. Why not at the airport? On a recent trip to Albuquerque, I was able to get free internet access in the airport, thanks to the city of Albuquerque.

Actually, I've found that the San Jose airport to be one of the most reasonable prices for Internet Access. I believe it is only $6.95 for a day's worth of access. I travel to SJ a lot, and frankly, that airport is not one of the finest in the country. I'm definately willing to pay the $7 for something interesting to do or read.

Also, one thing I've noticed is that the swankier the hotel, the more money they charge for Internet Access. Tier-2 hotels will give you free access much more often then the top tier ones. So in those cases you can save money on both the room cost and the Internet Access charges.
