Today & the Future

chrystal ball & the futureSometimes a phrase or quote comes along at the perfect time and sticks with you. That happened to me today as I was thinking about this site and how it isn’t what I want it to be:

Everyday is a competition between the person that you are at that very moment and the person you want to become in the future.

I think that the quote can apply to virtually every aspect of one’s life and it certainly applies to the way i feel about this little journal. The truth be told, I’m pretty disappointed when looking back on my recent posts. That isn’t to say that there isn’t good information here, but there isn’t anything really inspiring among all of it. There is nothing here that says, “wow! I want to pass this along to my friends.” That is what I want this to become in the future and it is certainly not that place at the moment.

The question then becomes how to achieve that level which is certainly not an easy question to answer. First, personal finance is not an inspiring subject to the vast majority of people. If you explain you are going to teach someone how to become a millionaire, their ears will perk up, but as you get into the everyday personal finance matters, it becomes rather boring for most people. How do you not only capture someone’s interest, but produce the following information is such a way that it holds their attention? That is what I’m struggling with at the moment.

Part of the current problem is time and my lack of it. With a move back to the US set in the next couple of weeks, there isn’t much time to devote after doing all the basic maintenance work on the main and satellite sites. While that may be a contributing factor, it isn’t the entire reason, and I would venture to say it is only a small reason. The problem lies in the fact that information is given, but the way it is given isn’t inspiring to the vast majority of people.

The ideas on possible ways to change this have started to gel, but still have not mixed together well enough to actually make a detailed form where I can list the steps I plan to take in this post. What I can say is that there will be further changes to the writing here until I can hit on something that I feel is achieving the goals I want. It’s my challenge of taking where this journal is today and creating it into a journal of what I envision it in the future. I guess I can apply that to all the current sites I’m working on. Time for some more thinking…

I do certainly find that every day is a struggle between who I am and who I would like to be, and it’s usually the who I want to be that loses.

For what it’s worth, I enjoy your site, and take little nuggets of wisdom with me whenever I come.

I like the quote. That happens to me everyday. :)
