2006 Goals Review – April

My 2006 goalsThis month seemed to fly by. I didn’t spend near as much time as I had the previous few months addressing these specific goals as I was doing a lot of work on other areas of our network that Nate and I deemed important. It showed in the numbers for this month:

Increase unique visitors to the main site to 5,000 a day

While we’re still well below the 5,000 a day unique mark we had hoped for, we did see an uptick in unique visitors this past month. It seems a couple of key phrases rose in the Google search engine bringing more traffic our way.

Double membership to 11,500

Sign-ups continue at about 10 a day and we’re closing in on the 8,000 sign-up mark, but as mentioned previously, a lot of older sign-ups that were not active we have deleted from the data base. It would be nice to figure out a way to increase the sign up rate, but it isn’t an area that we have concentrated on.

Increase sat sites to 50

I managed to get two and a half new satellite sites up and running this month. We’re now up to 25 live satellite site. I’m not sure if we’ll make it to 50 by the end of the year, but I will continue plugging away at them as long as they continue to pay for themselves.

For this little journal, I would like:

Get it into the top 15,000 of all blogs as ranked by technorati (changed to 10,000 in February, changed to 7,500 in March)

i didn’t make any effort in this area during the month and it showed. In fact, at one point I was above the 10,000 mark again, but dipped down a bit toward the end of the month. I think I’ve reached the stage where if I don’t work at this at all, I will stay at about the same level as the blogs that are ranked in this general area tend to be a lot more active. I don’t think I’ll be concentrating on this area this month, however, as I have a lot of other priorities to address:

Technorati Rank:

April 30, 2006 – 9,147 (444 links from 174 sites)
March 31, 2006 – 9,826 (418 links from 153 sites)
February 28, 2006 – 11,920 (306 links from 128 sites)
January 31, 2006 – 14,798 (294 links from 106 sites)

Have at least 200 feed readers

This was a quite disappointing area of the goals this past month. In March I was fluctuating between 125 and 145 and I continued to do the same thing all the way through April – no gain at all in this area. I’m still in a good position for the ultimate goal of 200, but it wasn’t a good month for the feeds.

Overall I would say it was a mediocre month toward the goals. While I don’t think I’ll be spending too much time focusing on these areas again this month, I’m hoping that they will still do a bit better than they did in April.

  1. I’ve noticed that rss subscribership seems to go in fits and starts… Nothing for awile, and then suddenly I’ll notice that the numbers have jumped a bit. I have no idea why this is.

It appears to me that feedburner reading has weekly seasonality up to 20% between weekend and weekdays.
