I completed my taxes with TaxACT and Maryland's free iFile. Both were pretty painless and completely free, and I e-filed both for free. I filed jointly with an AGI of about $60,000.

Just some information on filing your own taxes. All H&R Block offices will check your taxes that you prepare for free. They will not correct them if there are mistakes but they will verify that they are right and you are getting all of your deductions. There is absolutely no charge for this service. I know this for a fact because I have worked there for 10 years. They also have the free double check challenge will they will review all 3 of your last tax returns to make sure that they were done properly. There again no charge for these services. You can verify this by calling 1-800-HRBLOCK. I always suggest to my clients that they try it themselves first if they have easy returns, don't need there refund back fast (which are loan products) or they are computer literate.
