Site #3 and New Calculator

The third in the series of sites I want to get up before the end of the year is about half way done and should be completed by tomorrow. This site was actually built off an article I wrote a couple of weeks ago and is called Cost of Smoking.

The main reason that we went with this site was that we felt we would have a pretty good promotional tool for it. Nate made up a Cost of Smoking Calculator which we’re hoping will place pretty high in the search engines eventually. We believe we can achieve this because the Millionaire Calculator we have on the site is consistently in the top five.

We will also expand the calculator to be better than the ones currently out there (ours is currently like all the others). All the smoking calculators that I found only calculate the cost of the cigarettes smoked, but none of the other factors I pointed out in the original article (and on the new site). Once I finish each of the sections with a rough estimate of the costs of each, we will add those into the calculator.

Hopefully that will eventually make our calculator a destination place for those looking for the cost of smoking. This in turn will funnel a lot of people to the satellite site (that’s the plan at least).

Although I still have quite a few sections to finish up on the site, it hasn’t been near as difficult as the previous site (knock on cyber wood) and if it continues to go smoothly through tomorrow, I can begin on the 4th site before December begins…

The millionaire calculator is how I found you! I like it best out of all the others I’d found.

Solid idea. Good luck.

One side effect of all your new website efforts is slow motion on the existing ones. I miss your ebay store and $20 challenge. Best of luck with the remaining 12.

This is quite true. I expect that actually I will see a decrease in revenue from this site and the main site next month since I won’t be able to promote either as I have in the past. This is definitely a one step back, two steps forward approach due to time limits.

While the $20 challenge has taken a back seat, it is not because I’m being lazy. That was something I started with using spare time I had and believe me, these days I have no spare time…

Hopefully getting these sites up will have a positive effect in the long run so that I can spend all my time on the main sites and the challenge :)

The smoking calculator is very cool!

Cost of Smoking calculator is a pretty nifty calculator… All the more reasons for me to stay off cigarrettes! Thanks!

Will pass on the nice comments about the calculator to Nate.

I like what you are doing but I was wondering if it would be better creating a blog style site with a mixture of static articles and some blog content perhaps just quick entries to smoking related articles. It seems like search engines are putting more emphasis on blogs and sites with RSS ability.

I would love to do that, but with eventually having 25+ satellite sites plus my blog and running the main site (including getting out newsletters) it isn’t realistic at this time to think I could update them on even a semi-regular basis.

Maybe after seeing which ones seem to get the best clickthrough rates and payout the best, we can switch those over into blog style sites, maybe paying someone to add content at least once a week. Definitely something to consider…

Sounds like a good plan.
