    Another advice: Use the fireplace for heating. You need to bring firewood and such, but it is the cheapest way to heat a room.

    Great ideas. In addition, I’d suggest regular maintenance on your furnace. Change filters, clean the intake vents, the blower blades, etc. If the furnace doesn’t have to work as hard, you’ll definitely save money.
